Literacy

Developing Readers & Writers

Second grade readers strengthen fluency: pace, rate & expression. They rely on a range of decoding strategies, phonemic awareness and spelling patterns to solve and spell new words. They explore new genres and move beyond beginning chapter books to longer books. Students respond to literature and learn parts of a story. Second grade authors explore a variety of genres and compose complete paragraphs as they expand their writing.
