Valley Student Support Services

Valley’s Student Support Team provides a network of support to keep students safe, provide opportunities for growth, and meet academic goals, and ensure strong communication about student needs across the school.

The team includes our Head of School, Director of Teaching and Learning, the Student Support Manager and several Student Support Assistants, who work directly with students.

The Student Support Team provides help navigating a range of educational needs, including:

  • Developing and Implementing Student Support Plans - The team works with families to determine and implement necessary supports. This can include diagnostic information, classroom accommodations, recommendations, and plans for in-school support as well as support from other providers.

  • Push in support in classrooms - Based on assessments and needs, additional teachers are assigned to classrooms at key educational times.

  • Pull out support - Students who have been identified as having particular needs may get 1:1 or small group support either continuously or for targeted skill development.

  • Student Tracking - The team works with teachers to assess knowledge and skills, analyze information and determine needs that inform support decisions.

  • Continuity of support - The Student Support Manager ensures all teachers, including specialists and extended day staff, are informed about student needs and accommodations and maintains and updates support plans across school years.

  • Communication and coordination with outside providers - When students are working with providers outside of school, it is important that there is communication with the Student Support Team and the child’s teacher.  Some providers come into the school or provide virtual services during the school day, and the Student Support Manager coordinates space and time.

Referrals - We provide families with referrals to preferred providers for support we are unable to provide internally, such as speech or occupational therapists, psychologists, or more intense tutoring support.
