Profile

Shana has been Head of School at Valley since 2023, having been a teacher and an administrator in progressive schools for over 25 years.  She believes deeply in the power of childhood, knowing that children are wonderful and hilarious and capable of great things, more than some people give them credit for. Watching her own girls– now in high school and college– blossom in independent schools has cemented Shana’s passion for the importance of a strong, child-centered education. When she’s not at Valley, you can usually find Shana at Seven Star Women’s Kung Fu, where she holds the rank of Black Belt in the martial art of Kajukenbo, or at one of Seattle’s many music venues, watching one of her family members perform.
