Term: February 2023 through June 2023, plus August 2023 - June 2024 if desired. Hours: 3:00-6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday

The Valley School is a co-educational day elementary school serving approximately 115 students in grades pre kindergarten through the fifth grade in the Madison Valley neighborhood of Seattle. Founded in 1985, The Valley School offers a high-quality academic foundation in a small school setting, rich with opportunities for creativity, exploration, and play. We celebrate childhood. Our learning program is a mixture of playful work and purposeful play and is designed to be developmentally appropriate at each grade. Social emotional learning and skill development form an important pillar of our program, in addition to academics, specialist classes, and dynamic playground spaces designed to offer myriad opportunities for students to learn and grow.

Position Overview
The Extended DayTeacher supports Valley’s Extended Day program and serves as an important bridge between The Valley School and families. The Extended Day Teacher is a team player, possesses strong communication skills, and is creative and resourceful. This position reports to and works alongside the Auxiliary Programs Manager.
Essential Functions of Extended Day Teacher
• Oversee a group of approximately 10 students spanning 2-3 grade levels from 3:00-6:00 p.m., Monday Friday. This includes time on Valley’s playground, as well as managing indoor activities and snack.
• Coordinate with the Extended Day & Summer Camps Manager and classroom teachers for smooth transitions to after school activities.
• Create engaging, innovative activities around art, engineering, problem-solving, and teamwork.
• Possess a genuine appreciation and concern for the education and development of children • Help plan and provide a wide range of activities designed to reach a variety of learning styles • Maintain developmentally appropriate practices and possess strong group management skills
• Nurture kind and respectful relationships with children
• Clearly communicate student and instructional needs with faculty and administration
• Maintain confidentiality and nurture healthy relationships with families
• Help maintain an inviting, safe, and organized environment
**It is a plus if you have a distinct talent to share with the program, such as visual arts, performing arts, music, yoga, martial arts, etc.**

Benefits
The Valley School offers salaries that are competitive with comparable schools in the Seattle area and are commensurate with experience and credentials. At 0.375 FTE, the pay for Extended Day Teachers is $25.00 per hour. This position does not qualify for our benefits package. Paid Time Off is accrued on a prorated basis.
Requirements
• Successful experience working with elementary school-age children
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred
